Yes, its true! There are locally made Christmas ornaments from Key West, Florida and I have discovered a delightful catalog that describes some of them. The Key West Conch Traders, Inc. catalog describes a "tropical Christmas collection," which has a flamingo santa, seahorse santa, santatee, turtle santa, octopus santa, pelican santa, and dolphin santa. Each character has a santa hat (in red) and are very nice. These are hand blown glass items. The stoe also stocks "Key West Christmas Album" compact disc to play while you decorate and plan for the holidays. I imagine they would be willing to send off a catalog to you.
